Vice President Lai Ching-te affirms CYUT volunteers
CYUT was honored to have Vice President Lai Ching-te visiting on 20 Jun 2023 and presenting the flag to two hundred volunteers, marking the beginning of their summer services locally and abroad. Seeing the conference hall full house was wonderful, and everyone excitedly awaited his appearance. When the MC introduced Vice President Lai on stage, a big wave of applause and hurray resonated through the hall, and his charismatic speech enlightened participants.
Vice President Lai affirmed volunteers’ efforts in practicing SDGs and social engagement, setting a role model as a global citizen. He stressed that volunteer service is one of the indicators to measure the progress of a nation, and each of us can contribute our part to it. In the past ten years, over two hundred and fifty CYUT international volunteers have tirelessly devoted themselves to serving the rural of Tanzania, India, Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Indonesia. They built libraries and digital learning centers, enhancing information knowledge, childhood education, and the livelihood of the disadvantaged. Over 23,000 people benefited from their philanthropic acts. This year, the team will reach the Republic of Uganda, the Philippines, and India to improve the sanitary of drinking water, play with orphanage children, and assist single moms in Uganda in getting rid of poverty.
Cheng Tao-ming, president of CYUT, extended his immense gratitude to Vice President Lai and the Ministry of Education for their affirmation and support. Indeed, CYUT has put in tremendous effort and resources to support government-initiated community services in primary and secondary schools, forming 83 volunteer teams to serve 29,000 students. Volunteers will run educational programs for primary students this summer in four rural areas. With great hope, CYUT volunteers will continue to light up the world and pass on volunteerism across generations.
